A new market for meat lovers in Melbourne’s CBD has opened in the heart of the city’s west, with stalls selling meats from as far afield as Turkey, New Zealand and South Africa.
The Melbourne Meat Market opened on Friday and is now the third-largest meat market in Australia.
Mr O’Brien said the market was one of the “best places in the world to go meatless”.
“I know the demand is going to be there and I know that we have to take care of our animals and our customers,” he said.
“It’s going to create an opportunity to create a really good meat product, a really great value for people.”
Mr O’tonan said he hoped the market would help to draw people away from the local meat market and towards Melbourne’s outdoor markets.
“We’re talking about a lot of people that go to the market to buy food,” he told ABC Radio Melbourne.
He said he was “trying to create something that’s more sustainable” and was looking forward to helping the market grow. “
In a city like Melbourne where we are all walking around with bags on our shoulders, people are going to do that anyway.”
He said he was “trying to create something that’s more sustainable” and was looking forward to helping the market grow.
“Hopefully we can get to another level,” he added.
