Walmart Neighborhood Markets in the U.S. are set to close this week due to a pandemic, but the retailer said on Tuesday it plans to reopen them in the coming weeks.
The decision follows the expiration of an order from the U,S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to close all of the stores by Oct. 3, the same day that the U:The Wall Street Journal reported that Wal-Mart was trying to sell the stores at an auction.
In a statement, Walmart said it had made the decision to close the stores “in the best interest of our shareholders.”
Walmart Neighborhood Markets are one of several major retailers in the United States, including Target, Walgreens, and Wal-mart Supercenter.
On Oct. 1, Wal-Marts Neighborhood Market, which is in the Bronx, New York, will close.
At the time of the news of the closings, Walmart said it expected to sell more than 400 of its locations in the region.
But the retailer’s Neighborhood Market in New York City will remain open for more than another three weeks.
